The Center for Technology and Society
The Center for Technology and Society (CTS) is a multidisciplinary research center at the Technical University of Berlin.
The Academic Senate approved the CTS in December of 1994 and we opened our doors a year later. The CTS actively promotes
and pursues multidisciplinary research, teaching and public forums in the areas of technology and society.
Research: The CTS has co-ordinated more than 50 multidisciplinary projects with team members from all departments of the TU-Berlin.
Our areas of specialization are: Technology in daily life, Innovation for Sustainable Development, Mobility, Communication/Knowledge/Co-operation.
There is steady growth in the development of project partners and project proposals.
Teaching: The CTS has reorganized and reinvigorated multidisciplinary teaching at the TU-Berlin through initiating working groups,
events, brochures and informational posters. The CTS has also organized or taken part in multidisciplinary seminars with
other departments and drawn attention to social science and technology studies themes in their teaching. Other departments
of the TU-Berlin consult the CTS on how to improve their multidisciplinary seminar and programme offerings. The new model
study-programme "Global production Engineering" was conceived and realized by the CTS.
Forum: The CTS grounded a university Forum for Technology and Society. There is a regular series of colloquia, advanced reading
groups, working groups as well as the running of international workshops and conferences.
The Center for Technology and Society has only begun to develop the potential of the TU-Berlin in the area of technology and
society. The CTS places the TU-Berlin in the middle of the growing international expert discussion of the interaction of
technology and society.
